tips n' tricks: set for spring

I think it's safe to say (without jinxing it) that spring weather has almost arrived in Seattle.  We've had a couple of beautiful days the last few weeks and it's gotten me excited for sunshine and warmer temperatures!

In order to prepare for (or perhaps you're already experiencing) Spring, I thought I'd share my list of pieces that are must haves for the season and how you can maximize what you've already got in your wardrobe.

Leather jacket (here)

Wedges (here or just got a coral pair of these on sale!)
Flats (here or here, for weekends)
Flat sandals (here or here)
Evening pumps or sandals (not-economical-but-great-investment option here, or here)

Bags

Midsize clutch (here or here)
Weekend crossbody bag (here or here)

Don't forget to accessorize with statement necklaces (remember these?), fun bracelets, or even a printed and/or colorful belt to zhuzh up your outfit.  Some key tricks to Spring ensembles:
  • It's all about layering, especially if you live somewhere where the weather can evolve as the day goes on (camis under thin sweaters, gauzy scarves, canvas or leather jackets are essential)
  • Make the transition from heavier knits to lighter-weight fabrics (like linen and silk)
  • Incorporate colors by starting with neutrals, then adding brighter accents (like neon!) and accessories
  • Don't be afraid of prints (I'm working on it)---Spring is a great time for florals, tribals, stripes... bring it on!
